Designing the invitations to your own wedding can be quite a challenge – and that’s a good thing.

My research led me to Flora Graeca Sibthorpiana, an illustrated recording of Greek flora carried out in the late 18th century by Botanist John Sibthorp and artist Ferdinand Bauer. Therein, the image of a pomegranate shrub stood out, thanks to both its beauty and its symbolic power.

The end result is my and my husband’s initials, Miguel and Ειρήνα printed in bright red and forming the word ME, with a small white heart just off-center. Digitally made into black-and-white the pomegranate flower is used as a backdrop – and a sign of prosperity and good luck.
